The woman, sensing some doubt or feelings of uncertainty in Sylvan's words, kept her suspicions to herself. Instead, she nodded, acknowledging his words, before falling behind to pick up her nephew.

The Fel Lands was not a pleasant place. The area was dead, mostly, as if it was rendered barren by something in the past. Legends speak of the tower of Izaria, that it was the tower that cast this. Or maybe, something else.

The people up ahead stopped. They came across something blocking their path. The men went and took a closer look. It was a dead beast, though it looked like nothing they've ever seen before. It was the size of a horse, but had a bulkier build. It also had the head resembling that of dog, minus the ears.

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade
Sylvan's eyes watched the woman slow down her pace to pick up a small child. The sense of urgency grew in him, they really need to get going, farther away from this place and closer to the frigid. He raised his head once again to study the massive line the evacuees of Vhetlaug made. There were guards posted on each side, some looking like the guards that they are, while the others looked no different than the refugees in line, looking lost, dejected and afraid. It took them days to leave, the raven haired youth wondered how many more days it'll take for them to reach the frigid or hours, if they did a forced march betting on their adrenaline and sense of dread.

Soon the line slowly stopped before everyone was in full halt. They were once again whispering to one another, fear and anxiety filled the air once again. Sylvan let out a soft sigh, wondering what could it be again this time. It couldn't be the army of those he killed could it? Grasping the reins and pulling it backward, he made his chocobo run to the very front of the line, and there his eyes grew in wonder and surprise both, he had encountered many things in this world, some weird, some others existed in their world as a form of legend or lore. But this carcass that lay in front of the caravan, was something else entirely.
It looked like it was a mount or so. But it was something else, how long it was here they didn't know. Was it fresh? was it here even before them? Sylvan alighted from his chocobo mount and pulled out his sword, his other hand in a gesture asking the people to move backwards. He knelt down and examined the carcass, poking and prodding with his sword, trying to search for clues for what could've killed it, or if it was dead a long time ago.

[Woman]: "NO DON'T TOUCH IT!"

The woman who was talking to Sylvan earlier tried to reach out, but it was too late. She had read about this in an old book. Quite superstitious she was, and was believed to be the village crazie, but even superstitions have something grounded in reality. As soon as Sylvan prodded the dead animal's carcass, the rotting body turned all black, and dissolved into a bloody puddle.

Even more disturbing was that the blood puddle seemed to ooze small amounts of smoke.

[Woman]: "No! This is..."
[Man]: "Shut up Paz! You and your stupid myths again!"

Paz, the woman, looked nervous. Holding her nephew's hand, she backed away and looked at the crowd.

[Paz, the Woman]: "It's an invitation..."
[Vhetlaug Farmer]: "Invitation to what?"

[Paz]: "A banquet."
[Farmer]: "Well, that's nice then. We're going to have a feast?"
[Paz]: "NO. WE ARE THE FEAST..."

As soon as Paz mentioned that, the sky turned dark over the Fel Lands. For as far as the travelers' eyes can see, there was suddenly thick fog everywhere. The villagers were shit-scared. The weather had turned for the worse, and Paz's ramblings started to scare the women, and children. A drop of liquid from the sky fell on Sylvan's cheek, just under his eye. Soon the drops increased in number.

One of the men noticed that it was not rain. It was blood. Blood was trickling from the sky. Everyone huddled together, in fear.

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

Blood... Most of the people in the caravan, including the guards, were stricken by fear of this unknown event. But not the Haremfield Warriors. Though this is the first time they've seen blood raining from the skies, it wouldn't be the first time any of them bathed in blood.

One of the Haremfield warriors suggested to the commander of the guards to tell the citizens to leave their belongings and make a run for Silent Hall. The quiet village of Silent Hall was just a few kilometers away. It would provide better shelter than out here in the open.

The soldiers were in panic, so they didn't question the suggestions of the veteran fighters from Haremfield. Everyone was told to leave behind their belongs and to take only those items that were truly important to them, and finally to run to Silent Hall. Most of the citizens were able to comply easily to the instructions of the guards, but some of them were far too old to sprint. These elderly were allowed to ride on the backs of Chocobos, previously used by the guards. Some were rode on wagons, specially the small children.

One moment they were in conflict with the Ashborne army, and the next moment it started raining blood. What was truly happening? Could this all be chance or is someone pulling the strings?

Many things have been said about this cursed land and there are varying theories why. The most commonly accepted belief was that it was due to the tall tower that stood in the landscape. In the midst of the chaos, Paz ran with them. She was able to momentarily grab Sylvan's garment by the shoulder but she tripped. The fog was so thick that by now, visibility was reduced to 10-15 feet depending on the clarity of the person's vision.

Paz found herself clinging onto a dead log while people passed her by. She was nearly trampled on by the people. She kept her head down and hoped to survive. She attempted to cling to passers by but she couldn't get a grip. Worse, her nephew has gone missing.

Paz yelled for help but was drowned by the screams of the spooked out travelers.

TO SYLVAN:
You may search for Paz or you could leave her alone.

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

Warnings often come late after the deed or danger has passed. And once again, Sylvan was able to experience this first-hand much to his growing frustration against this cruel and unfair world he was thrown in. Unable to do anything, no matter how hard he fought or strove to survive and grow strong. One way or another something would arrive and foil him. Paz, had warned him too late about the danger about being part of the feast, when Paz finished saying her warning. Sylvan felt the foreboding danger that would come, he didn't believe in superstitions especially when he grew up with them and saw for himself how it made people look stupid, ignorant and uncultured. Maybe this time however, the superstition was right and that it was a clear and present danger.

The dead creature disappeared or rather turned into a think and heavy fog before being lifted up in the air. It started to rain, a light drizzle at first, He felt the drop just below his eye, but the smell was different. It was a smell he was starting to grow accustomed to even though he didn't like it. The stench of blood, death. Not noticing at first, until one villager screamed it was blood, Sylvan put a hand under where the droplet fell and he saw for himself that it was indeed blood, before it slowly dissipated, unaware that the sword was drinking its fill again. What started as droplets and drizzles soon paved way into heavy rain that pelted the skin, the people huddled together but Sylvan did not join them, this was his mess, loathe to admit it he might be, and he will clean it up.

He aimed the sword that he had drawn earlier to prod the cursed carcass earlier around the vicinity and looked around--alert for any incoming enemy or whatever it was that could appear. The rain only grew stronger and the pelts felt like acid, like tiny rocks being thrown at him, but he steeled his will against it, using his hatred and unbent anger. Most of his life he had lived with his back against the wall, beaten up unable to do anything sometimes, and he wasn't just going to roll over. No, He would fight, defy the very fates itself and then he heard one of the haremfield warriors take charge and tell them to head towards a nearby village.  The women, children and elderly were made to ride the chocobos, a smart move that Sylvan himself agreed to silently, still with sword went over to his chocobo and hoisted up a few younglings and an old man and then gave them strict instructions.

"Follow the wagon! Stick to it if you can! Do not stray far from it!" His voice was loud but not angry, he made sure his instructions were clear to both elderly and young alike. "Don't look back! We'll be with you soon!"

And with his instructions done, Sylvan lightly slapped the side of the chocobo and made it run after the wagon that was now leaving their vicinity as quick as it can, and then he rushed over to the other guards and helped them in putting the elderly and young in other chocobos and wagons, there was danger sure, but fight he will for these people, even to his last.

Don't doubt, focus on what you're doing, make it quick. Be the calm in this shitstorm  he repeated in his head again and again to make sure his mind doesn't go back to overworrying or blaming himself unnecessarily when there was a job to be done and people's lives were at stake.

"Hold hands! HOLD HANDS!" Sylvan shouted "Hold hands and make sure you've got a good look of who you're with! Hold hands while you run to avoid panicking! We're here with you! We're gonna guard you! Hold hands!"

Sylvan rushed over to the people who were so panic stricken they couldn't move and have them hold hands with other people who were walking/running towards the village, calming them down if need to. Then he felt a sharp and heavy tug on his cloak and then  a scream, a woman? Was someone reaching to him earlier?

"Where are you?!" Sylvan shouted as he walked around while still eyeing the people. "I'm coming for you!"

Paz was still lost in the mist. She was very terrified. But she head Sylvan's voice. She called out for help. And then it happened.

For a while everyone was silenced by an unearthly wail. A scream of a woman, spine-chilling. It was like those in horror movies. It may sound cheesy but this one was so loud it rattled eardrums. And people had never heard a scream like that before.

The mist was thick, and full of uncertainty. Paz struggled to find her way, and is on the verge of losing hope. Only the thoughts of her nephew, still a young boy, kept her going on. Her cries were drowned out by the voices around her. The tones of people, bewildered and afraid. Fortunately for them, the hired warriors were there to reassure them. Though the rain of blood did little to appease it.

Paz then, by sheer luck, found Sylvan and held onto his boot. She was crying, her eyes nearly swollen from the sheer magnitude of tears that passed through them. Paz was truly worried about her nephew.

*SYLVAN has found PAZ*

But now there lies the matter at hand, that a small boy no taller than four feet, was missing in the fog. The stampede of people might have crushed the little boy, hopefully not. Paz felt very, very bothered. Mucus started to drip from her nose, still weeping.

[Paz]: "Let us find my nephew please!"

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

And the blood from the sky pelted him and yet he was not stained, but he did not notice due to the more pressing matters at hand to be done. He needed to find a civilian, a woman. She may just be a number, but one more person could be considered a win in the deaths he had seen, caused and experienced. Not that he was okay with the others dying, but if could save them all, keep them alive longer than the expected, then that should account for something right? He raised his arm to shield his eyes, eyes narrowed and focused like a hawk's, looking at silhouettes, singling out voices. Focusing on that single cry for help that is being drowned by hysterical voices. And then he heard it. A wail that made him stop rooted on the spot, he had heard it on horror movies for countless of times and scoffed at it during the times he would hear it while he was watching movies.

But this time? It was real. The scream, the wail. It was otherworldly, it came from afar and yet it sounded near at the same time. It was like the blood rain was the scream itself made physical. He could feel his heart wrench and beat fast and he went silent just like the people he was trying to protect. He opened his mouth to say something, to shout out the fear, but no voice came. His hand shook without him knowing as he held on to his sword, silence filled the air after for a moment. Sylvan had awaited what beast or otherworldly creature would come out suddenly, he looked around cautious and very guarded. Only the loud rain of blood falling filled the void that the deathly wail had left behind after, and then people started screaming once again, mixed in with some other guards calming the people down. And then he felt it, a firm grasp on his boot.

!

Sylvan gasped inwardly and raised his blade to strike whatever held onto him, and his blade was close to hitting its mark when he saw the woman grasping him was the same woman who was talking to him earlier and then served as the one who would warn him too late about this feast. Eyes widened, but now calmer, Sylvan drew his blade back slowly as he saw the woman who was a sobbing mess in front of him and begging him to find her nephew. Sylvan remembered her slowing her pace earlier and picking up a child. Could that be her nephew? Sylvan knelt down and picked her up by the elbow, raising her slowly. The woman Paz had reminded him of his own mother, whenever she cried when they argued because she could not understand him, or rather they couldn't. She had begged him countless times to open up to them, to family. But no matter what pleas he would not even when his mother had admitted to not understanding him because he was too deep for them, and that they weren't prepared for a child like him.

A frown formed on Sylvan's lips. Different worlds and yet same the same traits, was this what would people call motherly affection? The reminder of home irked him and yet gave him something fondly to remember in a world possibly colder than the one he knew. He held Paz by the shoulders and spoke loud and clear.

"We'll find your nephew! But you have to go with the people! What is his name? I'll go find him for you!"

At first Paz's words were garbled, filled with trembling but as soon as she realized that Sylvan was there to protect her, she started to relax. She slowly opened her mouth to speak, her fingers were still twitching as they were grasped around Sylvan's arm.

[Paz]: "Nelson. His name is Nelson. Please let's find my nephew! He could be hurt right now or worse!"

The screams heard by the travelers sounded as if they were made by a human female, but in truth it was not the case. These screams began to increase in number. Clearly, whoever uttered them, was not alone. The people were now frightened. Was it a ghost, or a she-devil? Entire hordes of them?

Separated from the group, little Nelson covered his ears from these piercing wails. He had never been this frightened his entire life. Nelson found a large rock and crouched beside it. Soon he was hearing swooshing and screeching from above him.

In front of Sylvan, hiding behind the mists were shadows passing him by. Shaped like diamonds, or roughly shaped as such, these shadows whizzed and buzzed around him and Paz. The rain of blood ceased. And without so much as a warning, one of these "things" erupted from the mist and gashed Paz on the leg. She fell on her knees. And then the thing stopped.

Right there in front of her, and Sylvan, about 8 feet away, hovered a large Fastitocalon-F, a sort of flying fish that has a taste for human flesh. The fish snarled, before disappearing back into the fog. The shadows continued to move around them, trapping Sylvan, and Paz in their spot.

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

Nelson. That was the name of her nephew, Sylvan repeated it mentally so he can remember it. When the wailing happened once again, but this time increasing in both volume and quantity? Screaming women? Perhaps Banshees? He has heard of ghastly women that fit the bill during his travels in europe, the people called the ghosts Banshees. Perhaps he was going to encounter one today, the thought was enough to derail him from his focus if not momentarily. Ghosts, supernatural and otherworldly things were his primary weakness next to large bodies of water. Sylvan put out his arm infront of Paz and was protecting her as he backed away slowly while scanning the area, his head shifting from left to right, quickly but with discipline.

The screams grew louder and then mists seemed to appear infront of him as the rain of blood had ceased to fall, it allowed him to focus more without the annoying yet painful pelts of rain falling around him, not to mention it gave not only him but the other people around him much needed visibility in all these chaos. It was a welcome change. Now they can see and react, something they weren't able to do earlier at the same time. Shadows inside the mist seemed to dance, were they really ghosts? His question was quickly answered however as one of the shadows from the mist burst out like a loosed arrow and had injured his female companion, Sylvan swung his sword after, but it his blade hit no mark as it went back into the mist.

Sylvan quickly knelt down beside Paz while his gaze was unremoved and undisturbed from the threat that was now in front of them or in this case around them, He tore off a part of his cloak and tossed it to Paz. He dared not remove his gaze, these patterns, these were predators. This wasn't the first time this happened to him in this world, even on the world before. He got lost in the mountains once along with some other snowboarders when they were attacked by wolves, he had learned a lot from that incident and studied about it just incase it happens again. Who would've thought he would be able to use such knowledge on this world?

"Wrap your wound with that and apply pressure." Sylvan instructed the woman, He needed to be calm for her before she panics and does anything stupid. "You told us earlier, we are the feast. Just what are we against? And how do I kill them?"

From their gills the fish seemed to emit a noxious, and foul-smelling odor, one that would be sufficient to make a human suffer a terrible migraine. This was a favoured tactic of the Fastitocalon, to wear down their prey as they lunged in for the kill. Paz and the other people were already, starting to feel very dizzy. The children were unable to take in the smell, making them vomit.

OVER THE HILLS..

The Ashborne scout has successfully reported the matter to his superiors. They checked the valley to see it was being engulfed by a thick haze that seemed to stretch for miles. The officer studied the situation carefully, seeing that it appears to be a bad omen. Moreover the place was said to be cursed.

Back where Sylvan was, a voice can be heard in the distance, to him. Only he can hear that voice. Sylvan’s evil sword was unusually silent despite the commotion. It remained in a dormant state. The voice began to grow louder.

[VOICE:] “You stupid idiot. A disappointment! I paid good money to send you to school and now you...”

Images, split-second images of Sylvan’s dad mistreating him started to flash in front of Sylvan. The images showed Sylvan what he underwent as a kid, a father who was barely there for him, and when he was actually present, only treated him like shit.

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

There was a voice, a familiar one at that. A voice from his life that he had thought he had left behind. He didn't focus on it as the foul stench coming from the mist distracted him, making him nearly gag, however he was a seasoned adventurer and had survived on his own alone for sometime, he had also encountered dangerous creatures that he needed to slay in order to survive. The moment he caught a brief whiff of the odor. He quickly held his breath and pulled up the collar of his coat up to the bridge of his nose. His hand was still infront of Paz, protecting her from any further assault when he turned his head and noticed that she looked a bit dizzy. It was too late to warn her now, so he kept his focus on the task at hand, which was getting them out of this mess.

But the voice and phrase grew clearer as he focused on what was in front of him, and he could feel his chest constrict--tighten as his ears were able to listen clearly and his mind able to discern and understand the spoken words. Clear as day, as if he was still back in earth. It was his Father, Sylvan's eyes widened as he saw memories, memories he had repressed. Memories of a father he had tried to please even if he tried to kill him.

Then his eyes narrowed and his fist clenched tightly.

"YOU!" he said in utter disgust and deep malcontent. "I-!!"
Half of his face was hidden and yet his voice and his expression did not lie, it was easy to read, full of hate. He fixed his stance and the sword was aimed forward.

"I WILL KILL YOU!"

The voice of Sylvan’s father grew louder. In front of him appeared a bright light. Time had seemed to stop. Sylvan was back on Earth. Everything quieted down, then, laughter. It was the warm laughter of family and friends. The scene where Sylvan was looked like a family gathering.

He was no longer clad in his fantasy world clothing. He was back to his regular attire whenever he was at home or at the mall. Decent clothes. He also seemed a little shorter again, younger. The faces of the people around him were quite recognizable.

[Aunt]: “You’re becoming taller each year!”

The aunt said to him. The family members started comparing their children. Cousins, sons, daughters. Eventually it led to a boasting about school grades. When Sylvan’s dad was asked, he got the report card. Sylvan had a low grade.

Immediately Sylvan was cursed and reprimanded. Called a failure. In front of his relatives he was spanked for having low grades.

Sylvan is spanked by his father in a dream. He now regains control over his body. Your move, Sylvan.

(This is a dream sequence. For Acruxis, you can now suddenly make Sylvan move in the dream. It is a lucid dream where he regains full control after his father started spanking him)

(TO ACRUXIS: Make Sylvan act while he was being spanked. You can do anything except you don’t have the sword since the dream showed you in Earth clothes)

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

The voice grew louder and just as Sylvan had fixated his blade to charge at the memories or the ghost of his so called father. He charged onwards intending to end his suffering, unlike back in earth, here he had power, he had enough power now to break free from the chains that bound him to his father, from his accursed blood and legacy. But light blinded him and in an instant. He was back in their home in Marikina, the ancestral home before the fire and he heard one of his aunt's voice speak to him.

The moment, the transfer was instant that he wasn't able to think, that he thought his whole life was just a "vision" Deja Vu, a momentary glimpse of what was ahead and that him being a child right now was the true reality of things. Family reunions, he wasn't really fond of it. They, the children were bargaining chips for their parents to play. Who had the better who, who was smarter than who, and who the legacy will fall to in the end. Sylvan really didn't like it, he wanted to play a lot, but was only restricted only on Saturdays. Not even a Friday night was safe, because it was still considered a school night and then Sundays would have Monday after, so he spent Sundays reviewing and or simply just staying put. Toys would come with good grades, it was the initiative, but even at a young age Sylvan found it, stupid.

He only wanted to get along with his cousins as well and play. But they were interested in the competition, by their own will or parent's he did not know. The Report card was presented quarterly and so it happened that their reunion came during the time report cards are given out. He had gotten 95-97 on other grades, because the subjects came to him naturally, save for math which was a paltry 84, one point short of him being an honor student. Sylvan hated math, because unlike other things he really needed to work for it and he was baffled by it, even if he didn't study he would find the other subjects easy, but not math. He hated the concept of things he could not "read" math was cold and hard and he could not get a feel for it, and lo and behold he was scolded and spanked, at least not with a belt this time, but being spanked infront of other relatives was embarassing and it was the reason that made him cry more, more than the spanking.

And so he clenched his fists, because he was powerless and because if he did something, he and his sister would be shamed and then more spanking would come because of the shame. He cried but looked down, not wanting to look at the gaze of other people, because he knew they liked it, they viewed him as an upstart, someone who was too smart. An accident that appeared in this world that cost them finances, money that would've been theirs was suddenly passed on to him because his grandmother loved him dearly. The pain rose and so did the hate, and he was slowly but surely remembering, that this was all in the past.

His rage was building up and making his focus sharp and the memories oh they were like whetstones sharpening his defiant and vengeful nature.

(Disclaimer: Events portrayed in Dream Sequence may not reflect the past accurately, however it is a dream and everything feels real to Sylvan.)

The Past,
Sylvan's Home...

The scene switches and turns back even farther than before. It was Sylvan, he was six, and he was at a family lunch with his parents. His father was trying to teach him some new words, new manners about table etiquette. This time it was the word "May I Be Excused."

At the table, Sylvan had just finished his meal. His little self was quite full; he wanted to get off the table so he can play with his toy, a Robocop figure. Sylvan was about to leave the table when his father told him to stay.

[Sylvan's Dad]: "You will not leave until you learn to say "May I Be Excused?". Do you understand?"
[Sylvan[: "..."

[Dad]: "Say it. Say may I be excused!"
[Sylvan]: (remains silent)

He was silent because he was too shy to say the words. Sylvan's dad asked Mom to get the robocop figure which Sylvan was holding. His mom reluctantly complied. To teach Sylvan a lesson, his dad took the toy and threw it outside the gate. Sylvan was so sad that he wanted to cry. The Robocop figure tumbled into the air, and landed outside the gate just at the pavement. Some street kids took it away upon seeing it.

Something twitched under the table. It was the demonic sword. Why the hell was it there? In that particular time of Sylvan's young life? The dream does not appear to be true, and yet it felt very real. The sword was there just on Sylvan's leg.

"KILL YOUR FATHER!!!!" uttered the sword, its voice only audible to the young Sylvan. He was being given a chance to change his past, at least in a dream, and that may be more than a welcome relief, than waking up to a grim reality.

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

Torrents of rage built well within him, but just like always he kept it deep within him, his heart was like a well and in it he kept everything. Inside--his hate, fear and anger raged stormier than any sea during a heavy storm and yet it would not show, it would only build up for what. The pain subsided and the spanking stopped, along with his relatives disappearing from sight, and now once again he was with his parents. A curse he would bear forever, he was okay with being left alone on his own, but being with his parents was like sitting in a room with a bomb rigged to blow anytime with the timer being invisible.

Now the world seemed bigger than before and he a tad bit smaller. He sat in the chair, eating on the table that they had before their house burned down, it was one of those antiques. Sturdy and embedded with tribal designs, even though the dream or in this case nightmare shifted stages or scenarios, Sylvan was unable to discern it at first, the fear the very tension in the air, he knew it all too well, and he was being taught to speak new words, he hated this. All he wanted to do was eat and play so he could get away from their smothering strictness, it did not help that his was father was ungentle with his teachings, always upfront or heavy handed in his approach, due to his own hometown being in chaotic Malate Manila.

He wanted to speak the words and make them proud, make him proud. But it would not come out, more than shy he was afraid. Everytime even the slightest change or heightening of tone proved to scare him, and his mother as always simply looking on, she would comfort him later but would not do anything for him at the moment, simply be submissive to his very dominant father. His free hand's grip on the utensil tightened and his eyes welled with tears as he struggled and pushed himself to speak the words they wanted to hear, but alas too late. His mother would turn to her side and take the toy from him since he was by her side on the long table, and his father would be positioned at the edge of the table on what they called the seat of power for lack of a better term, and then as usual his father would prove his dominance, his might by throwing the toy outside their house for some other kids to pick.
Sylvan's tears rolled down his cheeks, his jaw trembled as he held back the whimpers and the following agony. He mustn't make any noise, he shouldn't even cry for he was his son, and in the Cruz lineage no one was allowed to cry. His mother was whispering and trying to comfort him, seeing as she cannot do anything nor stand against his father. It was always like this, and will always be in the future, and he lamented that fact, that the very heroes he adored like Spider-man wasn't there to save him. No one wanted to save him, because he was just another child, a statistic in the sea of many.

Not even his mother, Grandmother or aunts. No one was going to stand against his father, they would only comfort him during the aftermath, but no one would take a stand. It was cruel and twisted for him. And then a voice spoke and suddenly a sword was on his lap. It was the first time he saw it and yet it seemed very familiar and it spoke to him to do an evil deed. He moved backwards scared at what it was telling him, and yet its words rang inside his head and connected with him.

Sylvan trembled as he reached for the handle of the sword. He felt it cold and real and he feared the possible repercussions and yet his emotions were running high. Touching the sword made him remember that "might is right" and how there is no justice for the weak.

Sylvan's head lowered as he remembered a quote he treasured.

"Justice is subject to dispute; might is easily recognized and not disputed. So we cannot give might to justice" he whispered beneath his small frame. "Unable to make what is just strong, we made what is strong just" he continued.

He remembered and seethed with hate, "Might makes right" was how his father ran their family and him remembering made him awaken as himself.

"In our world, in our home. You were King!" He shouted as he pulled out the sword from beneath the table, without any hint of hesitation, but conviction, his body turned to his current one to his real age fully armored and equipped.  "I don't know who you are, or why you used these memories of mine, But know in this world, in this dream of mine! I AM KING!"

Sylvan's Dream Sequence...
Inside his mind as he passed out during the Fel Lands fog scare...

Sylvan's father, Mr. Cruz, saw that his son seemed to be defying him, and it was eventually confirmed when Sylvan rose up to utter harsh words of defiance. Mr. Cruz became visibly angry, and shoved the plates and glasses aside as Sylvan stood up to face him. The father's fist was shaking uncontrollably, for after all, how dare does a mere son talk back to his father like this. It was pure insolence.

Despite Sylvan being now fully grown and clad in armor, and holding the sword, it did not seem to bother his father, nor his mother in the dream.

MR. CRUZ: "You half-wit fucker! I raised you, gave you food, shelter and education, and this is how you respond to me? You are stupid, useless, and a waste. You are a failure! And a disgrace!"

At this point, history, as far as the dream was concerned, was altered. For the first time in Sylvan's life he gained the strength and heart to stand up to his abusive, overbearing father. But even in a dream he can feel pain, anguish, and fear. Sylvan's father, armed with only a clothes' hanger, approached Sylvan, who was now holding the Cursed Blade.

MR. CRUZ: "What? You're going to use that toy sword to fight me? You'll fight me? Your'e a King? A king of what? Your own imagination! Watching all this damn Japanese cartoons has made you sick in the head. And playing with your videogames when you should be studying!"

Sylvan's mother quickly intervened and tried to calm down the raging Mr. Cruz, but the latter merely slapped his wife and sent her falling to the ground, crying. Mrs. Cruz could not do anything to prevent her husband from hurting her or her son. And at that very same moment the ceiling seemed to turn dark, as the lights all went out in the house. Day turned to night. And Mr. Cruz started to convulse rapidly.

From out of his sleeve came out a spear, which he threw at his wife, but she was able to get away. She ran upstairs, into the dark, and then shrieked. She just seemed to disappear in the darkness. In case Sylvan decided to run after his mother, Mr. Cruz stepped in as if saying "he can't."

MR. CRUZ: "You were a mistake. SHOULD HAVE STRANGLED YOU WHEN YOU WERE A BABY!"

Chapter 5: Serpents and Kings

The Fel Lands
The Cursed Blade

Sylvan stood up infront of his father, not as a son, but as a man. Inside him even when he knew he was already stronger, a part of his psyche shook. He always feared his father even hearing his raised voice was enough for his heart to beat fast and he would take it with him for years to come. He berated him nonstop, his favorite weapon. Berate first, then when challenged show might a force of arms. It was savage and barbaric.

His father prattled on but Sylvan held his ground, studying psychology has made him sturdier as a person even though deep inside he knew how fucked up and broken he already was, no thanks to his parents, more especially his father. His father had slapped his mother, though Sylvan had deep grudges with his mother as well, he more admittedly hated her less than him. He tried to reached out as she fell to the floor but in a split second his father had a spear in hand as his mother ran to safety after he had barely missed hitting her after throwing it.

A small smirk escaped the raven haired youth's lips as he placed his free hand around his neck feeling it as he massaged it gently, like there was a scar in it.

"Oh but you did strangle me father or in this case, you will. You never did like me for whatever reason, even the true story of my birth was unclear. You did not bother telling me anything, I always had to find the answer myself. Dig for the answers, put puzzles together. I wasn't a son, a child to be loved. I was an obligation to you, a grim duty."

Sylvan cocked his head preparing for the eventual fight that was inevitable. His mother had tried to bridge the gap between them always. But it only grew bigger up to the point, Sylvan just became his own man without his father's guidance.

"You call me a half-wit, but in your side of the family, I'm the smartest, even than you. If I'm a half-wit what does that make you then? Failure? Disgrace? I have spent 16 years of my life trying to please you, the family, the cruz clan! But you have never praised me, only heaped more challenges! Only pressured me when you should've rewarded me! and even at the smallest mistakes you would hurt me. Mother said you loved me and that I should try to understand. I FUCKING TRIED, but no more."

Sylvan's grip on his own neck as if to strangle his own self as his hate and grievances were aired out. Tears streamed down his face and yet his voice was still calm and clear.

"I only had books to teach me, I had to learn from the experience of others to know what was right or wrong. I was alone, ostracized because I wasn't like the other kids in the neighborhood even in the clan! You blame cartoons and video games the only company aside books that kept me happy, for what I am today. I say shouldn't you look in the mirror?"

"Back home, you were king of the household because you had power, you had might and it made you right. But this is different--" Sylvan pointed the Dark Sword towards his father. "I am king here, because this is my nightmare and I will wake from it and finally be rid of it all. Or I will die trying!"

Sylvan was now invested to see this through, to be free from the curse of his childhood, of weakness, of the hand fate dealt him with. He pulled back his sword arm and put the sword infront of him as he held it, blade steady as he seemingly rested his head on the blade and his eyes looking beyond the blade, looking at his opponent, like a knight from old would.
